Know the traps

Four differences that prevent big mistakes.

mg is not mcg

One milligram equals 1,000 micrograms. The abbreviation changes the scale.

Concentration is not dose

mg/mL says how much is in each milliliter. It does not say how much a person should receive.

“Units” are not universal

Syringe markings do not create one universal conversion to milligrams or micrograms.

Final volume must be stated

The final solution volume is not automatically the same as the amount of liquid added. Do not infer it.
